Free senior information sessions streaming live from new Boonah aged care service

Churches of Christ in Queensland is hosting a series of free information webinars for seniors starting 26 June 2020.

The first webinar - An introduction to Aged Care in Boonah - will stream live from the lounge of new Fassifern Aged Care Service development and will include a virtual tour, giving the community their first opportunity to see the state-of-the art building.

It will also cover topics such as the difference between residential aged care, retirement living and in-home care; key factors to consider when determining the right option for your personal situation; the process for accessing care; and what My Aged Care, ACAT and Income and Assets assessments really entail.

Anne McGill, General Manager Aged Care, Churches of Christ in Queensland, is one of the first presenters. She said the idea for the webinars was conceived following feedback from families that they are increasingly overwhelmed and unsure about where to start when their loved one requires additional support.

“Considering the best options for the next phase of life can often be overwhelming, particularly if you need to move fast,” Ms McGill said.

“We regularly hear of the difficulties people face as they look to access in-home care or seniors accommodation, and the confusion around what they need to do to be ready.

“It can take months to get a government assessment and sometimes just as long to be assigned a package or place, so why not get the ball rolling now and be prepared?

“The Lounge Room webinars will have a wealth of up-to-date information from local experts, with answers to the questions many people have regarding the support available for senior years.

Each webinar will feature a range of industry experts to address a specific topic, such as the importance of financial planning, estate planning and advanced care planning, as well as tips and tricks for healthy ageing and wellbeing.
